In this oil I revisited a subject I had
originally painted in watercolor
(it's on view in the Watercolor Gallery).
I began working from a print of that watercolor
but I needed to see the shells in 3d.
Fortunately I still had many of the same shells
I had used in the original painting.
This time I arranged the big three
central shells near my easel on a pillow.
Using similar directional lighting
I was able to paint the major shells from life.
I also added three new shells and a footprint
for a variation on the wc composition.
